Redesigning The Mobile App

The beIN MEDIA GROUP manages 7 different media companies around the world and serves actively in 43 different countries. Founded in 2014, the beIN MEDIA GROUP acquired the largest Turkish Pay-TV platform Digiturk in 2016.

As the Senior Product Designer, I was responsible for redesigning the mobile app of Digiturk’s beIN CONNECT (OTT Platform) brand.

Main Screen

During one-on-one user interviews, users I asked how they accessed the content. Many users mentioned that they expected to immediately find content that interested them when they entered the application.

To address this, the hero area was enlarged, 2 different poster components were designed, and category displays were planned to be sorted based on the viewing behaviour of the users.

The “Continue Watching” and “My Favorites” categories were positioned right after the heroes and highlights to reduce users’ content search effort and cognitive load.

Sport

The audience group that generates the highest revenue for the platform is the sports (Super League) viewers.

In the latest update, I included the sports link on the bottom of the home screen in the tab menu, and I chose a football icon to cater to the largest audience.

To better understand user behaviours, I organised to redesign the old tab menu and subject it to A/B testing.

Tab Menu

The tab menu as it appears on screens without sports content is as follows: main screen alternative, live TV, account, and my list screens, respectively.

Packages

The package selection screen is part of the initial landing and subsequent registration process. I have also designed package selection screens for trial members, users with expired memberships, or those whose current memberships do not allow access to certain content.

Two main principles guided this design: First, I aimed to keep the user in context, and second, to offer a comfortable reading experience and an easy purchasing process.

Download & Play

A feature that was not available in the current application, but was available in competitors, and that users wanted to see, was the ability to download content and watch it offline later.

I designed this module as an overlay. If the user selects “remember the selection”, this resolution selection screen will not appear again; the content will start downloading as soon as the download button is pressed. I also added articles explaining how the user can use this screen and how to access it later.

Films & TV Series

I designed the main, category, sorting, and film detail screens for users with two different viewing rights. The main category screen includes basic information about the content and a larger poster size, allowing users to preview the content without navigating to the detailed screen. This design component was also utilized in other screens such as “Search”, “My Lists” and “My Favorites”. (Similar component structures are used for TV Series screens, although I haven’t provided details to avoid repetition).

Search

I have created the search results to be displayed with a large poster and basic content information. My goal is to help users find the content they are looking for as quickly as possible by adding a filterable structure just below the search input field.

Live TV

I redesigned the live TV screen with added channel and program search options, filtering, display of program information alongside the channel name in the listing, and easy channel-changing features on the viewing screen.

Adv

I designed an advertising display that allowed the marketing department to share announcements using only images, text, and a call-to-action (CTA).

QR Code

I designed a QR code scanning screen to easily log in to the mobile application, beIN CONNECT TV applications. If the user’s membership does not include access to watch on TV, the user will be directed to the package selection screen with a call-to-action.

Tooltip

I have designed a tooltip walkthrough that will be displayed once to first-time users of the application, explaining all the features, particularly the new and updated functions.

Remote Control

I redesigned the remote control screen by gathering data from the most-used remote control applications. The previous version was a direct copy of the physical remote, making it inconvenient due to its long scrolling structure. The new design is more compact and offers the functions that users need.
